内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of lectures by athletes with disabilities, one of the Para-Education practices, on high school studentsʼ understanding of disabilities. The specific content of the lectures consisted of the background of the athleteʼs disability, how she started track and field, the rules of track and field for the disabled, the function of the prosthetic leg, his/her experience at the World Championships, and his/her thoughts about the Tokyo Paralympic Games. The “image of physically challenged persons” (three factors: social disadvantage, respect, and sympathy) was used as an indicator of the effect of the practice, and “gender” and “experience of contact with people with disabilities” were set as analytical viewpoints, as well as before and after the practice. The results showed that only the image of “social disadvantage” significantly decreased before and after the practice. No interaction effects were found for “gender” and “experience of contact with people with disabilities. These results suggest that two important factors for the formation of a positive “image of physically challenged persons” are to understand the” devices to bring out their abilities” in sports for the physically challenged and to increase their interest in sports for the physically challenged. In addition, it was suggested that the research method needs to be improved by increasing the number of subjects and by using the scene recall method. |
