内容記述 | It was around 30 years ago when the author began to feel that the writing of junior college students (in the early childhood education department) was strange. This was triggered by the fact that the writing across papers and practical training journals, submitted by students as class assignments, was largely inappropriate. The author submitted a report titled Hoikuka gakusei no bunsho hyogenryoku ni tsuite (Writing Ability of Students at the Department of Early Childhood Education of Ikuei Junior College) to The Bulletin of Ikuei Junior College , No.19. In the report, submitted in September 2001, the author took up strange expressions that commonly appeared in studentsʼ writing and analyzed them. Twenty years have passed since this report. During this time, the author contributed to The Bulletin of Ikuei Junior College on eight occasions and made six presentations at the conferences of Zenkoku Hoikushi Yousei Kyogikai (The Japan Association of Training Schools for Nursery Teachers) to report on the decline in studentsʼ writing skills and point out its effect on the quality of nursery teachers. In addition, the author made presentations on measures to deal with this decline in writing skills. When this study was first published, it did not receive much attention. However, later, the authorʼs research began to be mentioned and cited many times, confirming the seriousness of this issue. This study is an attempt to examine how the writing skills of junior college students have changed over the last twenty years. It also compares their writing skills with those of students at a four-year university since the author teaches the “Japanese I” class for first-year students in the newly established Faculty of Education (at a four-year university). |
