内容記述 | “The Period for Integrated Studies” in Japanese elementary and secondary education tends to be conceived as an implementation of child-centered progressive education into schools. But the utility and significance of this time slot can also be explained from a little bit different angle, considering that; 1. Not all the students (: prospective electorates) go on to university. 2. Some important matters are only too actual, delicate, or ongoing to be written on textbooks as fixed truth. 3. In some cases the teachers might be unable to approach the truth and therefore just able to hand over to the students some tools of knowing and thinking. Accordingly, as a solution to above, “the Period for Integrated Studies”, in terms of the better future of studentsʼ lives and of the nation, had better touch upon, or repeatedly make use of; 1. basics of logical thinking, which serve as a virtually universal tool of checking the appropriateness of various statements, 2. some basic ideas of academic studies that are not usually taught until in higher education but actually rather easy to acquire and useful for comprehending the world, 3. clues to civic wisdom, etc., so as to relativize, qualify, (and thus make a synergistic effect with) standard knowledge taught in other subjects. | |||||
